Review: The Treasure
If you're looking for a nice story with a moral that won't bore you (there's action, rest assured!), but will leave a nice warmth in your heart, you're in the right place. "The Treasure". Don't be afraid that the comic was commissioned by the City Council, it's a really good story, without excessive moralizing and pouring icing on Warsaw with compliments. The city is the background, not the protagonist, for which the creators deserve applause.
What is a big advantage of this comic book, which takes place in Warsaw's Praga district, is a message in which everyone - old or young - will find something for themselves. And that's because in the story we get to know a nice family that walks around the capital. Seemingly, nothing foreshadows the twists and turns of the plot, the mother with a smile tells the story of how she and the father met. But here enters the imagination of Karol Weber, who could not miss such an opportunity. Well, as this creator of comic scripts likes to do, we enter a reminiscence in which we see how the parents-to-be belong to the same group of friends in the backyard. Of course - from Prague. We experience youthful adventures with them, and we also find a mysterious map....
The whole plot is nothing to give away, suffice it to say that the story does not lack plot twists. And, of course, it happens: there is a kidnapping, there are suspicious types, there is a detective and a daring action to recapture a hostage. Such an array of experiences wouldn't be full if it weren't for youthful love - and so it can't be lacking, either.
In fact, she glues the story together, adds warmth to it and makes it likely to appeal to a variety of readers, although by design it seems to be intended more for the younger ones. What is unique about "The Treasure," however, is its setting in Warsaw realities. Residents of Praga will be pleasantly pleased by the names of places characteristic for the district, and it can also be quite fun to find those immortalized in the paintings that came out of Fijal's hand.
And, of course, the fantastic artwork by Mietek Fijał, so close to the great school of Janusz Christa, is another reason why "The Treasure" is worth picking up. The climate of the comic is reminiscent of the best times of "Kajko and Kokosz", so for slightly older readers it will bring slightly retro, but very pleasant associations. To the younger ones, thanks to great, full of dynamics and incredibly artistic characters, it will reach without the slightest problem. The didactic element does not irritate, because it is woven into the action, full of events, and in the end love wins anyway - so could it be better?
The Warsaw City Council for the district of Praga Północ, when it comes to promoting Praga, you do it well. Great idea, interesting realization, good-looking cooperation of Karol Weber and Mietek Fijal - congratulations.
